The Washington State Conservation Commission
The Conservation Commission is an independent agency of state government formed by the same
1939 statute authorizing conservation districts. The Commission is made up of three individuals
elected by conservation district supervisors, the President of WACD, two individuals appointed
by the Governor and representatives of four state agencies. Commission staff work for the
Commission directly.
The Commission provides conservation districts with grant funds to carry out local
implementation activities, provides legal services to districts as required, and represents the local
conservation district perspective within state government functions.
